Outcome of active disease in ankylosing spondylitis: A prospective study

Posted on: 11/2/09

A study posted on the Wiley Interscience website looks at disease activity in ankylosing spondylitis patients over an 18 month period. One interesting aspect of this particular study is that all 89 of the participants were NOT being treated with TNF-a inhibitor medications.

Participants recieved "standard" treatments but not the biologics.

The study authors found "Evidence of functional deterioration during the study period." And state that, "This has important implications for planning care pathways and for optimal utilization of anti-TNF treatment."
