Switching biologic agents for uveitis

Posted on: 8/17/09

Published online at nature.com from the journal "Eye", a case series looks at the effectiveness of switching biologin medications (TNF-a inhibitors) to help treat uveitis if one medication should become ineffective.

The authors write that switching to another biologic medication when the current one becomes ineffective can help with uveitis treatment, "Our case series provides preliminary evidence that in cases of refractory uveitis with loss of initial clinical response to one biological agent, switching to another agent can restore control of intraocular inflammation."

The authors also state the reason for switching between biologics, "(infliximab or adalimumab) was for gaining control of systemic symptoms, uveitis, or for the ease of administration."
