Case Report: Psoriasis after infliximab treatment
Posted on: 2/3/09
A case study published on Medscape.com from the Dermatology Online Journal examines a 26-year-old man who developed a number of skin lesions over his body after receiving infliximab treatment for ankylosing spondylitis and Crohn's disease. According to the report, "He developed the reactions after the fourth infusion at week 14 after the beginning of the treatment."
The infliximab treatment was halted and after skin biopsies were preformed revealing a number of conditions including "psoriatiform dermatitis", the patient was given oral cyclosporine at the dosage of 250 mg/day for one month. "A complete resolution of the cutaneous eruption was obtained. After six months of follow up our patient had no cutaneous lesions. After six months of follow up patient did not present any cutaneous lesions." States the report.
The report's discussion goes on to conclude that, "To our knowledge the reason for this cutaneous side effect is not clear and will require further study to determine the cause… dermatologists should be aware of this cutaneous adverse reaction."
