About Cindy Barta, Kansas City's Support Group Leader

I am 51, soon to be 52

Married to Darin Barta for 13 years
Three grown children: Eric, Tee Jay, Kacee
Two wonderful daughters in law
Three grandchildren, the fourth due Feb. 8 2011

I attend the Paradise Ministries, where I volunteer regularly.

I am an avid outdoors person; my husband and I take our three dogs and travel, trailer camping, on a regular basis. I wish we could go more often.

We ride our atvs in the mountains every year, even though I pay for this afterwards. AS does not like it at all, but I am not willing to give it up at this time in my life. I love outdoor photography and piddle with it every chance I get.

I like crafting. Some of my favorite things to do are jewelry making, sewing, latch hooking, and I am about to give quilting a try.

I am blessed to have so many wonderful people and fun things to do in my life.

Yes, I have AS, but it is not taking control of my life. I have had to make some lifestyle changes - some of that may have to do with my age also J. I have my days when I get frustrated with it, when I can’t do something that I used to do, but there comes the challenge that I love: finding a positive, and something new to do.

I believe strongly in helping others; it is a gift that gives me great joy.
